What's Happening at the Smart City Event in 2025?

By Carl Ford

Virtually no other use of IoT is as tightly connected to human requirements as Smart City.

Whether it’s first responders protecting citizens and managing emergencies or city councils looking to support citizens’ needs for better services, our upcoming Smart City conference will be tightly focused on peoples' well-beings.

This year, we'll start with a discussion about how cities evaluate the benefits and requirements of their respective IoT initiatives. Whether the city is small, large, or a relative cluster of communities working in unison, the goal is still the same:

Bring about positive changes that keep citizens safe and happy (and allow for re-election).

That said, there must be combination of "carrots" (i.e. budgets and grants) and "sticks" (i.e. laws and regulations) that are applied in order to make IoT available. (This all ties together to safety and security.)

We'll look at first responders' urban challenges with our inaugural IoT User Group Meeting for First Responders. In this session, we'll talk about recent insights and guidance from the Department of Homeland Security regarding first responders and related applications for responsible AI. Participation in this session is available to all and will be followed up by regular virtual meetings going forward, notably.

Then, we'll discuss the practical problems of in-building coverage and how to make sure reliable communication is available throughout every building.

This will be followed by discussions about healthcare applications. Healthcare and well-being solutions are constantly innovating as new treatments, better diagnostics, and general improvements of delivery seem to be achieved regularly.

We'll then move on to the basic needs of clean water, proper disposal of waste, and a ready supply of energy. Each of these needs has specific solutions in existence that are seeking improvement.

While these certainly doesn't cover not all the applications of smart city technologies, they represent great essentials and everyone investigating smart city solutions should join us to learn from the experts and gain insight to meet their own requirements.
