TGIF, readers.
Before we (ideally) get some much-needed R&R this weekend (especially ahead of the Thanksgiving/Black Friday/Cyber Monday madness), let’s chat for a moment about smart agribusiness solutions.
Quick recap: “Agribusiness,” in a nutshell, covers a chock-full spectrum of activities involving agricultural production, processing, distribution, etc. On the farm level, it encompasses farmers, their crops cultivated and livestock reared, and eventually the products brought to consumers. And in terms of high-tech advancements that create real-world impacts, “smart agribusiness” involves harnessing the power of soil and air pollution sensors, predictive AI-powered monitoring for proactive maintenance (i.e. before critical equipment fails), real-time field analytics, relevant weather predictions, and more for optimizing crop yields, conserving resources, reducing water, food waste and pesticide usage (i.e. controlling irrigation, feeders and and chemical systems remotely), and boosting other measurable, sustainability-centric measurable efforts.
Also, (just a quick sidebar here), it’s neat for me personally to revisit this topic because one of the first-ever articles I was able to write for our sites like Smart City Sentinel/IoT Evolution World dealt with agribusiness; it covered accessible satellite IoT and 5G-powered livestock-tracking capabilities, especially for limited or out-of-normal-coverage areas. Read it here.
Other pertinent stories we’ve penned include future-proofed vertical farming via innovative hydroponic systems, an investment made by NVIDIA to empower farmers’ weed control efforts, precision farming technologies (e.g. farmer-friendly tools for land preparation, planting and seeding management and nutrient-related operations, etc.), and even Monarch Tractors — supported by network technology from Verizon Business — being able to run autonomously in order to expand safety measures maximize what’s possible for farmlands, vineyards and orchards. (Read those stories by clicking on each hyperlink.)
It may take time to make it all work, but boy howdy is it interesting to watch farmers and organizations’ agribusiness teams utilize meaningful, next-gen agriculture solutions.
To learn more about this topic, we encourage readers to read about our upcoming Smart City Event that’s taking place from February 11-13, 2025, at the Broward County Convention Center in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. This event, part of the #TECHSUPERSHOW experience, also features access to educational conference programming, robust exhibit hall, and other activities.
One session in particular at this Smart City Event is titled “Smart Farming: Integrating AI, Drones and Robotics to Manage Crops and Livestock” and we definitely recommend attending. It’s happening on Thursday, February 13, 2025 from 10:00-10:45 AM.
Consider reserving your spot at the #TECHSUPERSHOW here.
