Howdy and good morning, Smart City Sentinel readers.
It’s a fresh week. Let’s get into it with this Infogrid + Buildings IOT story.
In Friday’s ICYMI news rundown over on IoT Evolution World, I touched on this topic but felt it necessary to flesh it out a tad more here because of what’s at stake.
(Namely, climate action.)
For context, Infogrid is a provider of “smart building intelligence solutions for intelligent smart building professionals,” as the company itself has stated. Diverse real estate and facilities teams rely on Infogrid’s expertise in building analytics so they can achieve “healthy, sustainable, and profitable spaces.” Marriott, the Royal Ballet and Opera in London, Tishman Speyer, NHS and plenty of other organizations have proven they can save their time and money (and carbon, of course) with Infogrid’s energy-saving, easy-to-deploy solutions; buildings, after all, impact our lives and the planet immensely. Most of us spend upwards of “90% of our time inside buildings,” which make up approximately “39% of the world’s emissions,” per Infogrid.
The world needs better buildings, hence why Infogrid acquired Buildings IOT.
Serving commercial real estate, retail, higher education and service providers aplenty, Buildings IOT helps businesses reduce building operating expenses (i.e. by 20% in the first year), resolve their issues faster (and with data-driven precision), and lay the environmentally conscious groundwork for buildings that are truly adaptive for the future ahead.
(Again, the acquisition makes a whole lot of sense, if you ask us.)
Naturally, their official announcement also words this quite well:
“This strategic acquisition supports Infogrid’s vision to optimize operating budgets while advancing the industry’s path to decarbonization,” as the addition of Buildings IOT’s automated demand management, advanced fault detection and diagnostics, and grid-interactive capabilities will enable Infogrid to support even more building owners and operators.
“This technology acquisition marks a pivotal moment in our mission to transform the built environment with technology that is as good for the planet as it is for the bottom line,” explained Kate Henningsen, CEO of Infogrid. “Together, we can offer clients unprecedented carbon and cost-saving opportunities.”
“Buildings IOT was founded with the mission to revolutionize the way buildings operate,” added Brian Turner, Buildings IOT’s CEO. “Combining the Infogrid and Buildings IOT technologies will be essential in aiding the built environment’s shift to low carbon and making significant strides towards decarbonizing operations.”
Learn more about smarter buildings powered by the Internet of Things at IoT Evolution Expo 2025, which will be taking place from February 11-13, 2025, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Part of the #TECHSUPERSHOW experience, this event combines educational conference programming with a robust exhibit hall, networking events and other activities, bringing together buyers and providers of business technology products and services that are huge for IoT.
