We’re nearly there, readers – the can’t-miss Smart City Event is taking place in one week! Part of the official ITEXPO #TECHSUPERSHOW experience taking place from February 13-15 at the Broward County Convention Center in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, up-and-coming technology teams and long-time industry specialists alike will be able to come together for educational conference sessions and panel discussions, as well as myriad networking opportunities as attendees stroll the massive exhibit hall with technology showcases left and right. (Learn more about the event and consider registering here.)
And speaking of showcasing exciting technologies, there’s additional news to share from a company we’ve dedicated much coverage to over on IoT Evolution World (which ties into ITEXPO’s IoT Evolution Expo goings-on also taking place in Florida).
That company?
Morse Micro.
After having established its strategic partnership with Synergy Associates (and another partnership with Quectel), IoT connectivity and smart interoperability solutions provider Morse Micro has a technology ecosystem portfolio that is rife with new innovations, particularly related to new Wi-Fi HaLow capabilities. Wi-Fi HaLow is ideal for smart city environments because of its long range, low power consumption, low data rates and much more.
So, the additional news we’re covering: Recently, Morse Micro announced a new capability; namely, the success of what it has called “the world’s first live demonstration of Wi-Fi CERTIFIED HaLow technology extending three kilometers” (i.e. just shy of two miles).
According to research from the Wi-Fi Alliance, Wi-Fi HaLow’s range is already longer than plenty of IoT and smart city-centric alternatives, especially when you factor in the distance with how robust the connections can truly be (through what you’d think would be problematic barriers, and even in incredibly challenging urban areas). However, previous range data for Wi-Fi HaLow has hovered in the ballpark of 1 kilometer (if not a smidge more).
That right there is what makes this Morse Micro news as significant as it is.
The Morse Micro team staged this record-setting field test of a long-range video call in San Francisco’s Ocean Beach neighborhood to showcase the ability of sub-GHz Wi-Fi HaLow signals to reach long distances in challenging real-world conditions. The protocol’s unprecedented 3-kilometer range is enabled by Morse Micro’s Wi-Fi CERTIFIED HaLow system-on-chip (SoC) solution, which (as evidenced) offers powerful wireless capabilities for future IoT applications.
“Our successful demo of Wi-Fi HaLow video call across three kilometers in a difficult, real-world urban environment is a major milestone for Wi-Fi connectivity, showcasing the wireless protocol’s incredible reach,” said Michael De Nil, co-founder and CEO of Morse Micro. “Wi-Fi HaLow is a transformative technology that shatters the boundaries of today’s wireless connectivity. With its unparalleled range, exceptional low power consumption and superior throughput, Wi-Fi HaLow stands as the frontrunner in the IoT landscape. This is the future wireless connectivity, and it’s here today powered by Wi-Fi CERTIFIED HaLow technology.”
