Disrupt-X Announces Smart IoT Gas Metering Solution through Intel Ignite Shield

By Laura Stotler

A new cost-effective solution for replacing traditional gas meters has been unveiled by Disrupt-X, a UAE-based IoT Development Company. The new IoT Gas Metering solution has been launched under Ignite Shield, an Intel Market Ready Solution. It can efficiently replace traditional gas meters without the need for technician callouts to take manual readings.

The new IoT Gas Meter Solution from Disrupt-X monitors gas consumption by measuring and sending data once per day via the Disrupt-X platform. The offering uses Sigfox connectivity to provide accurate gas reading data transmission. The Sigfox global network specializes in wireless connectivity for low-power devices like electricity meters and smart watches.

Features of the new solution include a meter battery life of up to 10 years as well as the ability to send alerts if the sensor level is not in the preferred range. The Disrupt-X Gas Meter Solution can also build custom billing and consumption reports and uses AI-based technology to inform users when abnormal readings occur. It provides recommendations based on gas readings, enabling preventative measures and helping prevent gas leaks.

One of the major benefits of the new offering is that gas companies do not need to send engineers to manually record monthly readings since they are available in real time on the platform or via a mobile app that is accessible by consumers. Misreading of gas meters is a common problem within the residential and commercial markets as inaccurate readings lead to individuals and businesses paying for more than what they actually consume.

“With IoT we are able to jump a step ahead of Smart Gas meters with this cost-effective solution requiring minimal infrastructure," said Yaseen Aljaizani, CEO of Disrupt-X. "IoT Gas meters would be an ideal choice for rolling out new communities and buildings, and for replacing traditional gas meters. Gas companies save on manual meter readings and consumers only pay what they consume, it’s a win win for both.”

Disrupt-X partners with both Intel and AWS and offers solutions for water and air quality monitoring in addition to gas and water metering through the Intel Ignite Shield umbrella.
