DataMSP Enables On-Ramps to the Cloud with Megaport

By Ken Briodagh

According to a recent announcement, DataMSP, a tier-III compliant data center facility, has made available its Megaport, a Network as a Service (NaaS) provider, in its Minnesota data center. The addition of Megaport reportedly will support DataMSP’s high density, fiber-rich environment and offer clients more options for private, multi-cloud connectivity options. DataMSP also offers on-net connections to a number of telecom providers and access to all providers in the greater Minneapolis-St. Paul area.

Megaport’s Software Defined Network (SDN) is designed to enable customers to connect directly to cloud service providers, on-demand, and with elastic capacity that aligns to cloud-usage models. Customers provision connections through Megaport’s self-service portal in near-real time and can access an ecosystem of over 250 service providers including the leading global cloud service providers.

DataMSP said it is looking to partner with service providers or a large operator who is considering establishing a presence in the growing Minneapolis market. Moreover, DataMSP offers a pay-as-you-grow model that is designed to reduce upfront costs and risks.

The Minneapolis-St. Paul region has been one of the fastest growing secondary data center markets in the U.S., spurred by the Minnesota’s aggressive data center incentive programs offering sales tax exemptions for data center owners and tenants of qualified facilities. Business growth and innovation is fueled by access to high capacity bandwidth and with Megaport, DataMSP further supports organizations by establishing secure connections to public cloud providers including AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, Oracle, IBM, Salesforce, and others.

“Megaport aligns connectivity to cloud service models. In doing so, we help enterprises break down barriers to adopting cloud services,” said Nicole Cooper, EVP, Americas, Megaport. “DataMSP’s pay-as-you-grow model aligns very well with our ability to offer elastic connectivity so that customers can align their IT infrastructure and service acquisition to their business requirements. We are excited to partner with DataMSP, a top tier data center provider, to extend the reach of cloud services into markets where enterprises need them.”

DataMSP has the following power and security specifications:

  • N+1 or greater electrical and mechanical infrastructure
  • 48 hours+ on-site fuel storage for back-up operations
  • 7.5+ MW critical power load (expandable)
  • Dual redundant feeders from separate electrical substations with available third feeder from alternate substation
  • 24x7x365 manned security and dual authentication to secure areas
  • Full exterior and interior camera coverage
  • Purpose-built data center
  • Secure private interior parking area and loading dock

In addition, DataMSP can meet regulatory requirements and obtain industry certifications including: SOC, PCI DSS, and ISO among others.
