Cognitive Systems and Qualcomm Partner for Smart Home Awareness

By Chrissie Cluney

Cognitive Systems Corporation announced that its patented Aura WiFi Motion technology has been made a standard option for customers developing products based on the Qualcomm Mesh Networking Platform. This expandable beacon-based solution uses advanced RF motion algorithms and machine learning technology to allow people to monitor their entire home without cameras.

“With the prevalence of wireless devices, there is a new light shining; it just isn’t visible to the human eye. We have created a way to capture that light and use it to understand movement - without cameras,” said Taj Manku, CEO, Cognitive Systems. “The Qualcomm Mesh Networking Platform delivers robust and consistent connectivity in every corner of the home. Our collaboration with Qualcomm gives us access to an ideal platform that provides whole home coverage, which combined with Aura WiFi motion, provides full home monitoring with no need for additional hardware.”

Cognitive Systems’ Aura WiFi Motion technology is commercially available in its own Aura smart home monitoring solution. This product has been recognized as a CES 2018 Innovation Awards honoree.

By making Aura WiFi Motion a standard option on the Qualcomm Mesh Networking platform, millions of existing and future connected devices will have the option to use Aura’s advanced motion detection. This can be accomplished without the need for design changes or additional hardware. This will provide smart home insights and controls to consumers or broadband carriers. Devices with Aura WiFi Motion will not only alert consumers when motion is detected, but can connect with home automation services like Amazon Alexa, Google Home, IFTTT for a truly automated smart home.

“Qualcomm Technologies is a leader in wireless mesh networks that are transforming in-home connectivity and enhancing the consumer’s smart home experience,” said Rahul Patel, senior vice president and general manager, connectivity, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. “Our vision for mesh networks as a central foundation for smart home innovation is exemplified by innovations like those invented by Cognitive Systems with its Aura WiFi Motion.”

Cognitive Systems Corp. is continuing to change the way that the world views wireless signals. Their patented RF technology offers unique solutions that use and interpret wireless signals in new ways. These advanced technologies allow Cognitive Systems to build WiFi Motion solutions that support a variety of initiatives within the smart home market.
