Igor Launches Smart Building Platform with Open Standard

By Ken Briodagh

Igor, a provider of Internet of Things (IoT) smart building technology, recently announced the international launch of Nexos, a centralized IoT platform designed to turn static, legacy commercial properties into future-proofed and agile smart buildings. Unlike current IoT platforms, Nexos can interconnect and control disparate technologies and systems within a smart building or campus, which can include HVAC, PoE, safety, sensory and security products. The platform can also be installed in an existing building that is being retrofitted, with a competitive cost of ownership when energy savings, optimization of the space, and maintenance savings are considered.

Developing a connective, agile platform that an IoT-enabled smart building can operate on has been the biggest challenge to the adoption of smart building technology, Igor says. Current solutions in the marketplace lock data in silos, require duplicated software development, and prevent applications from easily interacting. “Established tools and practices stagnate the building industry.  Today's and tomorrow's opportunities require a new unifying agile technology platform,” said Dwight Stewart, Founder and CTO of Igor.

The IoT platform uses the security and reliability of structure cable technology as the backbone of its advanced technologies while retaining support and compatibility with other leading market protocols. With Nexos, any building owner or manager can transform their legacy building into a future-proof agile asset. Nexos is user-friendly, providing easy-to-use dashboards with common-sense commands to link a wide range of systems and devices in one unifying platform. It also retains compatibility with other IoT protocols, such as Zigbee, WiFi, and Bluetooth, which can be layered on Igor’s central software system.

Igor’s technology has been installed and implemented across North America, Europe, Australia, Asia, and South America. Educators are using the technology to power smarter, safer school environments. Senior living facilities are using the technology to improve resident quality of life and health. Hotels are using the technology to power a fully automated, smart building system to cut costs and improve customer satisfaction. Commercial buildings across the globe have embraced Igor’s technology as a simple way to reduce their carbon footprint and power highly efficient smart buildings for today and the future. Government facilities have installed Igor’s technology to reap the benefits of a cabled connected platform - security and reliability - while looking to future requirements.
